Black Mirror Season 3

     I haven’t watched the previous seasons of Black Mirror but hope to get on that really really soon because this newest season was absolutely fantastic. I kept hearing about this show and peoples’ comparisons to The TwilightZone did peak my interest. Unfortunately, it was one of those things that stayed on my radar but that I never got to. When the new season got put up on netflix, I finally decided to sit down and watch it. 

     Let me tell you… I am very glad I finally did. The Twilight Zone comparisons are valid. The show is essentially that with a technological spin/focus. That’s why it is so meaningful to watch in this day in age. We are all living in the age of technology and even if a lot of this stuff might not happen in the future, it is important to recognize the other, darker side of technology. I’m just like the next guy who can’t live without his iPhone and who sees technology as a major step forward in the progression of society. However, it can also be manipulated and used in very questionable respects. That’s kind of the perspective Black Mirror offers. It gets you to think about what could happen if we get overly obsessed and immersed in the current technological age. But that is also the one flaw I see with at least this season. It is so focused and specific to the questions of today that I’m not sure it will hold up in let’s say 50 years. The Twilight Zone on the other hand seems to transcend generations and offers up lessons that apply to many aspects of life. We’ll just have to wait and see.

     So if you have some time, try this show out. I’d definitely recommend it. Just know going in that the whole season is solely based around technology. It’s also pretty gruesome at times and has some very disturbing moments. It’s a remarkably entertaining and meaningful show though. I give it a thumbs up!
