Most Anticipated Movies of 2021

Luca- Pixar movies are always something to get excited about. While I haven’t loved some of their more recent work like Toy Story 4 and Soul, Coco was phenomenal and everyone of their stories has a heartwarming center that tells a profound message. Being from Italy, I’m even more excited to explore the Italian Riviera. Although the premise of a young boy who befriends a sea monster disguised as a human doesn’t sound all too groundbreaking, I have faith Pixar can make it special.

Black Widow- I’m not the biggest superhero fan in general and I haven’t been thrilled with Marvel’s more recent efforts such as WandaVision. Despite all that, Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff character is one of the strongest in the MCU.  The thing that really intrigues be about this one is that it supposedly centers a lot around the character’s troubled past. Russian espionage always makes for some great action.

The French Dispatch- Unique is one way to describe director Wes Anderson’s work. Although he can be very hit or miss, I’ve grown to love some of his films such as The Grand Budapest Hotel. His last movie, Isle of Dogs, was stop-motion and wasn’t my cup of tea so I’m excited for him to get back to his next live-action creation.

Soggy Bottom- This is just the working title for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie. He can be very hit or miss for me. I love There Will Be Blood but was really not a fan of his most recent film, Phantom Thread. Soggy Bottom has two things going for it that get me excited. It stars Bradley Cooper and is also a coming of age story(a genre which I love).

The Beatles: Get Back- Peter Jackson always delivers epic results and what could be more exciting than some never-before-seen footage of the Beatles, one of the greatest bands in history. All you need to do is watch the trailer that came out this past Christmas and you’ll be sold.

Dune- My anticipation for this one is all because of Denis Villeneuve. His films like Arrival and Blade Runner: 2049 are so unique and original and although the trailer didn’t quite do it for me, I trust he’s going to deliver a mind-blowing piece of cinema as usual.

No Time To Die- I’m a huge fan of Daniel Craig’s Bond and even though Casino Royale is the only one of his I really love, I’m expecting a major blockbuster send-off for the character. The never ending delays have also made me even hungrier to see it.

The Last Duel- Ridley Scott and historical drama. That’s all the information I need to get me excited. Set in medieval France starting Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, this project has loads of potential. Ridley Scott proved he still has it with The Martian and maybe this could even be his next Gladiator.

House of Gucci- Another Ridley Scott project and one that stars both Adam Driver and Lady Gaga. Sold as a biographical crime film flowing the iconic Gucci fashion family, this movie has all it needs to be a strong Oscar contender

Last Night in Soho- I’m not thrilled that Edgar Wright chose to dive into one of my least favorite genres, horror. Films like Hot Fuzz and Baby Driver are so good, however, that I can’t help but be curious about his next project

Untitled Elvis Film-I love biopics about iconic figures and nobody is more iconic than Elvis. Although I don’t love Bad Luhrmann as a director, I’m really curious to see what an unknown talent like Austin Butler has in him.

Stillwater- Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight is the last movie to win Best Picture that I thought deserved to win the award. It’s not so much the premise that intrigues me but the talent behind it. I’m glad McCarthy is once again deciding to tackle a drama rather than venturing off into some other genre.

Sherlock Holmes 3- Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes movies are pure cinematic fun. Although Dexter Fletcher is set to direct this one, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law really make the franchise and Fletcher’s other projects like Eddie the Eagle are extremely charming and gratifying.
